Why Should I Testify?

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. (John 15:26-27)

Just in the same way that God sends his Son and the Holy Spirit to testify about Him, God also expects us to testify to the world about his awesome power and the things he has done in our lives. We as a church in Christ believe that Christians should share with others the blessings and miracles that God has performed in their lives, not only to encourage other brethren in the church, but to also share with unbelievers whose hearts could be softened by the stories of God’s mercies in his follower’s lives.

We tend to think as Christians, or even non-believers, “How could my words encourage or give someone peace when I am not a designated teacher in the church?” We come to realize that Christ was never one to look for the perfect role models or most educated speakers to share his words to the Jews or Gentiles. Andrew, Peter, James, and John lived as uneducated fisherman before Christ called them to be apostles. Matthew, who was called Levi in Luke, was an educated, but hated worker for the Roman government by the commoners in his day. Although these people had less than ideal professions and attributes for being apostles, Christ expected them to go to the world and share his message to the people with love. How then could we believe that we as Christians think our testimony is useless in the eyes of other believers or non-believers? God makes it our responsibility to encourage others around us and give thanks to Him.
